Responsible for leading and supervising a crew of four other individuals throughout the Marais des Cygnes and Missouri River basins conducting stream surveys to acquire baseline biological and physical data for streams within each basin. Work includes locating random sampling sites using ARC MAP, gaining landowner permission, analysis of water quality, velocity, sinuosity, slope, sampling fish community composition, macroinvertebrate community composition, mussel assemblages, fish habitat, and… Show more Responsible for leading and supervising a crew of four other individuals throughout the Marais des Cygnes and Missouri River basins conducting stream surveys to acquire baseline biological and physical data for streams within each basin. Work includes locating random sampling sites using ARC MAP, gaining landowner permission, analysis of water quality, velocity, sinuosity, slope, sampling fish community composition, macroinvertebrate community composition, mussel assemblages, fish habitat, and riparian habitat. The majority of the fish and mussels are identified on site excluding a small voucher sample. Upon completion of each survey all data is entered and managed in a large Microsoft Access database. The data is analyzed and results, including IBIs and MBIs, are generated and distributed to landowners. Survey work includes overnight travel, maintaining sampling equipment, T&E species sampling, and work with aquatic nuisance species. A portion of the job requires the ability to communicate the importance of non-game, non-consumptive species and habitat management to the public, the department, and other agencies. Show less

Duties included field sampling, tracking of filters, QA/QC support, maintenance and calibration of equipment, providing and receiving training, and site reconnaissance. Became familiar with the SOPs and QA plan, and coordinated and conducted field sampling events. Became familiar and proficient with the operation of the BGI PQ200 PM2.5 Sampler to complete the air monitoring audits.
