About Ron Schepers

If I was to describe what I enjoy doing most it would be something like being given a whole lot of pieces and then shaping those pieces into a complete model. Or taking an idea and finding ways to make that idea a practical reality.Enabling me to do this is my years working in the IT industry, as well as working for charitable organisations. My varied work experience has has provided me with a wide range of people and communication skills, as well as technical IT skills. It enables me to take complex technical information and communicate this to the person "on the tools". I am equally at home creating SQL queries and coding functions for a website as I am helping someone figure out why their screen isn't working.I have enjoyed working in various industries and roles including my position as IT Manager for CJ Industries, a civil construction company, and IT Manager for Summit Real Estate. In both these roles I initiated infrastructure and systems changes to save costs and increase efficiency. I particularly enjoyed the 10 years I spent working with Air New Zealand, managing and developing their aircraft maintenance ERP System. I enjoyed working as Change Manager for the Nelson Marlborough District Health Board, helping manage the change associated with the implementation of a new financial software system. I also loved working in The Salvation Army looking for new and innovative ways to help serve the community.I thrive on new challenges and opportunities, and consider myself to be easy to work with, adaptable, a self initiated learner and someone not afraid to take responsibility And when I am not working, you will usually find me playing a musical instrument, enjoying nature or surfing.

    During my 10 years with Air New Zealand I was responsible for the ownership of the "Trax" aircraft maintenance ERP system for the Bombardier Q300 fleet of aircraft. This system tracks the configuration and maintenance of aircraft, work scheduling, purchasing and stock management as well as financial tracking, all in a strong regulatory environment. It was a critical component in the ability of the airline to continue to operate. I had complete responsibility for the product including managing vendor relationships, working with company stakeholders as well as with end users, ensuring the system met their needs and they were well trained and supported. I was a member of a Digital Team which was responsible for all aircraft maintenance software for the company. This team included programmers, technical staff as well as business analysts. As part of this team I ensured resources were allocated to product maintenance and development as required, and managed specific projects such as software upgrades. The team used Jira and other Atlassian products to manage workloads and projects, all in an Agile environment.My broad IT knowledge helped me understand and troubleshoot technical detail of the product. My management and communication skills enabled me to communicate effectively with vendors, stakeholders and the engineer holding the tools. I have a tendency towards continuous improvement and looking for ways to enhance a product to make it more effective. One project I initiated was working with the application vendor to help develop new software for pilots to use on mobile devices which could be interfaced into the Trax software for more accurate maintenance forecasting. This software has now been further developed by the vendor and is used by other airlines around the world.
