One of the community issues that I am very passionate about is the issue of immigration. Earlier in my life I was very active in my community and vigorously volunteered to try and make a change in my community; I volunteered at CARECEN-LA (Central American Resource Center) and helped dozens of undocumented community members begin their applications for their naturalization process as well as made phone calls to inform other undocumented community members of the resources available to them. Through my volunteer experience with CARECEN-LA, I attended rallies, protests, and even traveled to Sacramento in order to address and raise awareness on the importance of migrant workers and of TPS (Temporary Protected Status). I participated in youth programs, for the majority of my high school experience, that taught us valuable information on the topic of immigration; much of the knowledge was then used to raise awareness in our community through art, short films, infographics, and free events for community members to view and visit so that they can stay informed on current events related to immigration laws and policies! I believe that underrepresented communities deserve equal and equitable access to the proper resources to help them reach aspirations, goals and opportunities that may seem impossible to reach. In many cases, and communities, finding and receiving the proper resources can be very difficult, and sometimes discouraging, leading most to give up; my goal in life is to help as many disadvantaged people as I can and guarantee that they find the help and resources they need to live a more comfortable life.
