Research FellowNational University Of Ireland, Galway 2005 - 2009Galway, IeResearch topic: Aerosol delivery of adeno associated virus (AAV) in the treatment of Acute Lung Injury.Research centered around optimising aerosol-mediated delivery of adeno-associated virus (AAV) to the lung. The research resulted in a highly efficient delivery method representing a large improvement in the efficiency of aerosol delivery to a neonate model. From the delivery optimization phase of the project, the work expanded to involve the delivery of AAV vectors carrying reporter genes to the lungs of an in vivo neonate model. This work provided the proof of principle for the use of AAV as a gene vector in mechanically ventilated subjects. The final phase of the project involved the delivery of a therapeutic gene in the setting of Acute Lung Injury and resulted in significant protection against Acute Lung Injury. -
