A Stanford and Harvard-trained professional with deep commitment to public service and strong political acumen, Ronald has a track record of taking initiatives, embracing challenges, and creating positive impacts. Shortly after college, Ronald decided to practice what he had learned by running for public office in Hong Kong, his hometown. He won the election and served as a district council member until the Hong Kong chief executive appointed him special assistant. In this role, he helped the government manage its legislative and political affairs, enhance public liaison, and develop new channels of media and strategic communications.Subsequently, Ronald served as political assistant to secretary for constitutional and mainland affairs, and played a major role in the government’s two-year endeavor to introduce universal suffrage. He was then picked as undersecretary for constitutional and mainland affairs, with a portfolio that covered democratic development, electoral laws, human rights and equal opportunities, liaison with Mainland Chinese authorities, and cooperation initiatives with Chinese provinces and cities. Aged 33 at the time, Ronald was the first political assistant to be promoted undersecretary and the government’s youngest deputy head of policy bureau.Having graduated from the Harvard Kennedy School as a Mason Fellow, Ronald is devoting the next stage of his career to China’s national development and engagement with other countries and citizens around the world. In February 2019, he joined the Hong Kong Jockey Club as Executive Manager, Mainland Affairs (Policy & Stakeholders Engagement).
