ChairmanJoint Meeting Of Essex And Union Counties Jan 2006 - Jun 2014Elizabeth, New JerseyAccomplishments:-Led Board’s effort for passage of legislation that will clarified original intent of NJ Spill Compensation and Control Act, without which state taxpayers would bear the costs of defending against a lawsuit filed by chemical companies seeking contribution for damages from more than seventy-five (75) municipalities and six (6) public sewage authorities for the alleged discharge of hazardous substances into the Passaic River and Newark Bay and creation of website. As Chairman, -Joint Meeting of Essex and Union Counties, was presented with the National Association of Clean Water Agencies’ (NACWA) Operations and Environmental Performance Award-As a member of the Board, I oversaw:-Completion of construction to rebuild the dock around the Joint Meeting outfall at the Arthur Kill. -Construction was also completed on new Lab Building located in the area of the Pump and Office Building. -Construction of the new power plant which is able to supply a large percentage of the power for the main plant area, completed in late 2009. As a result, the power plant generated almost 77% of the main plant power requirements for 2010 reflecting a savings of approximately $1.4 million for power expenditures for the year for participating/member cities and towns-Improvements made to the asset that allowed the Joint Meeting facility to continue treating all of the raw sewage that entered the facility during the unprecedented storm surge of Hurricane Sandy that prevented the overflowing of any treatment tank. Duties:•Presided over all monthly public meetings of the Board of member city and town commissioners• Ex-Officio member of all committees of JMEUC• Represented the Board at yearly WEFTEC conventions• Oversaw annual budget adoption process• Monthly strategy and policy updates with Executive Director and Board counsel• Provided answers to inquiries presented to the Board by the public at monthly public meetings in a timely fashion
