I was rehired by CBS Interactive after my first stint from August to December 2010 (see below). CBS Interactive wanted to extend my contract right away after the previous contract but the needed to go through the budget approval process which took a couple of months.I worked on bugs, projects and extending their new in house framework that all the international sites were moving to. The development team had departments in Singapore, Australia that I worked with. They have teams across many other countries and I was able to witness how they all work together.I worked on the UK sites for CNET, ZDNET and silicon.com as well as Gamekult (a French gaming website).

I was contracted to work on a once off project. The project ran live in the US for valentines weekend. The project enabled users to submit message via a Facebook application, then the messages were moderated and processed live (the messages were read in a live streaming video) by a team in the US via a mobile site. The Facebook application also displayed messages in real time (in video and text) as they were processed. I was responsible for work on the data, web, integration, load testing and monitoring.The project was quite exciting as I developed in technologies new to me and the entire system processed data in real time, as data was added or modified in one part of the system it was reflected on other parts of the system almost instantly.

This is a short term contract with the UK Development team of CBS Interactive. I was hired to fix bugs and add functionality to the UK websites (CNet, ZDNet, Silicon, Gamespot) and the underlying search platform, Endeca.

I worked on a PHP project based on the Zend Framework. I worked on the project in the evenings from February to April and full-time from May to June. The project was previously built by a different company and I had to work off an existing code base. I had to revamp the site and add more than 50% of the functionality.

In April 2010 a new R&D department was formed in 24.com called 20fourLabs. There was a strong Open Source mentality within 20fourLabs and with the aim to build social web sites and add social networking functionality to existing sites. This was a promotion to me as I took on many new responsibilities.

I started at 24.com working in the GoTravel24 website, I was senior developer in our team and work with other teams. We worked under the agile Scrum process. I was responsible for creating standards and a semi-automated release process for LAMP projects.

After working at the Ignite department of IPC Media I got a contract to work in the Inspire department at IPC Media. IPC Media is a corporation owned by Time Warner. Inspire handle most of the company's web sites using the Symfony framework. This was my first experience working with SCRUM methodlogy.

This was my first contract job and first job in a corporation. The project objective was to integrate Brightcove video serving with their in house CMS system. I was the only developer on this project. Another objective was the ability to add functionality by writing plugins to integrate with other video serving software.

This job presented a new challenge; I oversaw all technical aspects of of the media department. I built a modular MVC CMS, in PHP/MySQL, that makes deployment of dynamic web sites extremely fast, setup dedicated servers via SSH for ourselves and clients, managed DNS and oversaw the subversion repository for all development work. The CMS I built is still used by the current developers and it is the standard CMS used by Outside Line. Part of my responsibilities was to spec out projects with a programming aspect, give accurate time estimates based on resources and decide which technologies best suited a project. My favourite project was one using Django, a python based web framework. It is a community based web site where users canupload videos. I oversaw a team of developers working on a C#.NET 2 project and did work on it myself, although I had no prior experience in .NET.

I joined this company in search of a more professional experience. I was glad to find that the pace and quality of work in Prezence was high. Our development team was small so I had a variety of responsibilities and almost always worked on a few projects simultaneously.I gained experience in dealing with clients and the handling of a project from start to finish. Most of my projects were CMSs (which were built to be reused) and other projects ranged from mailing list managers to SMS applications. My last project was extending an entertainment portal to serve pages on cellular phones for Vodafone's 3G service in South Africa.

I was one of the first members of Winner-Net’s IT department. Our department was managed from the United Kingdom (where the clients were based), so I was left to take the initiative where needed. I promoted the open source software route as the way to move forward. I carried out research to prove the superiority of this route and became acquainted with applications most popular in internet development (LAMP).Winner-Net built tools for the management and sharing of information within sales departments. Our applications were web based to give clients access wherever they were. Internally we built an application to monitor and encourage use of our products.
