Since taking the helm of the NFFF, which was created by the United States Congress to lead a nationwide effort to remember America’s fallen firefighters, Ron has developed and expanded staff and programs to honor the nation’s fallen fire heroes, assist their families and co-workers and represent the thousands of families in its network.In addition to oversight of all programs, services, and activities of the Foundation, including the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend, survivor support programs, fire service training and the a national memorial park to honor fallen firefighters, he works with the entire fire service community to develop and implement programs that will reduce the number of line-of-duty deaths that occur in the United States each year.Ron develops, implements and leads a national fundraising campaign, promotes and maintains partnerships with the fire-rescue service community, enhances relations with federal agencies having fire-rescue service responsibilities, represents the Foundation at national, state and local conferences, meetings, training sessions, and fire service funerals, responds immediately to all fire service line-of-duty deaths and works with his staff to develop programs to increase the emotional and financial support for fire service survivors.

Ron also oversees the work of the “First Responder Center for Excellence for Reducing Occupational Illness, Injuries and Deaths, Inc. (Center), which the NFFF chartered on April 26, 2016.The Center brings together researchers and subject matter experts in the fields of firefighting, emergency medical services, and other allied professions to examine best practices, conduct research, create programs and deliver authoritative and practical reports and training materials. Ron joined the Department in 1978 (his first paid job as a firefighter) and rose through the ranks over the next 20 years. His career at the Prince George’s County Fire Department culminated with 3 years spent as Chief overseeing a department with more than 700 career firefighters and 1,200 volunteers. As Chief he directed, coordinated and assessed the work of division managers, bureau chiefs, and other staff engaged in establishing, maintaining, regulating and controlling a variety of Fire Department programs. That included emergency fire, emergency preparedness and rescue services, basic ambulance, advanced life support and battalion rescue ambulance services; also specialized fire and rescue functions such as hazardous materials response, high rise and underwater rescue. As Chief he also coordinated activities with citizens and various governmental agencies and served on various County and other committees.
