I am qualified as a European Patent Attorney and a Chartered Patent Attorney with a master's degree and a doctorate in Biochemistry from the University of Oxford. I represent academic institutions, SMEs and large multinational companies before the UKIPO and EPO in patent matters in the life sciences and chemistry sectors. My area of expertise encompasses molecular biology, immunology, biotechnology, food technology and nutrition, enzymology, protein chemistry, polymer chemistry, general chemistry, diagnostics, nutraceuticals and pharmaceuticals. I provide assistance with all aspects of patent practice including drafting and filing UK, European and international (PCT) patent applications, prosecuting patent applications directly at the UKIPO and EPO, and worldwide; drafting, filing and prosecuting oppositions and appeals; performing (competitor) watching searches; providing infringement and validity opinions; advising on licensing and the exploitation of IP rights for revenue opportunities; reviewing patent portfolios and advising on strengths and weaknesses; ways of enforcing IP rights; portfolio management; setting up invention capture processes; providing training programmes to assist with IP awareness and to maximize IP return from R&D investment; and advising on due diligence matters. I have extensive experience in EPO examination and opposition proceedings. I also manage patent portfolios for both large multinational companies and SMEs.
