In addition to semi-regularly being responsible for the sports front of our Mississippi edition, my responsibilities saw a massive shift toward company’s online and social mediapresence, including SEO optimization, social media utilization, live blogging and real-time postingand updating of stories. Our sports department became the standard-bearer on how to handle the shift to a digital-first philosophy. I personally scooped out a few news items which generated high-traffic numbers, with my highlight being the time I scooped our own full-time web team..For print, I was responsible for compiling and editing copy, page layout and design on deadline along with producing promos to increase rack sales. I was often specifically requested to help out the news side due to my knack for catching some last-second mistakes. Was laid off when the company phased out the print product.

When the paper was suffering prior to a merger, I took charge of choosing and editing content for the editorial and sports sections and kept them running smoothly until our merger with the Mobile Press-Register was complete in September 2008.
