About Rory Smith

When I was young I was working summers on construction sites, which meant clean up, demo, carpentry, concrete, and watching Supers/PMs overcome conflict to keep projects moving forwards. From 1X to 22 I worked on multiple hospitals, office buildings, and three summers at a maximum security detention centre. During that time I also spent a year with an estimating team doing takeoffs by hand and working in the "war-room" on closing days.School was a different story, where I fed my creative side by focusing on communications. I graduated with Honours from Dalhousie/Kings and began working part time with EllisDon, marketing their proprietary ERP software. I soon transitioned into a Proposal Coordinator for a few years before putting my hand up to revamp EllisDon's entire Intranet platform. I did this as a solo project and was the sole admin for several years.Post COVID, I left that role to become the Marketing Manager for EllisDon’s Digital &Data division, a team of nearly 200 which includes Full-Stack Software Developers, UX Designers, Data Engineers, and some of the best Digital Modelers (VDC) in the industry. I love working in the space between construction and technology, and I can't wait to see what kind of future we'll build for this industry.

    A new role within the company, the purpose of which was to completely overhaul EllisDon’s intranet platform and Portal. I took the project from initial research through to deployment and operation, managing all page creation, content, administration, and API coordination with other software in use across EllisDon. The process involved coordination with our employee data directories, a content tagging system, multiple internal social media communities, a knowledge library, as well as the development of pages for all internal divisions, departments, and initiatives. From there, the role became one of maintenance, further development, and total content management.
