Profile bio

About Rosalie Newcombe

I'm Rosalie, your friendly neighbourhood Scottish nerd, and go-to person for writing anything, and everything to do with video games and technology. (And maybe some music work on the side too!)Currently, I am a Hardware Editor at GamesRadar+. Before my current role I was the Senior Tech Writer doe Dexerto wherw I wrote everything from Steam Deck guides, keyboard, and microphone reviews, to pieces highlighting the coolest and most bizarre tech mods and discoveries out there across the internet. I also managed the entire Tech vertical's evergreen content, edited staff writer and senior staff's work, and represented the team in growth meetings. While I'm currently a game journalist, originally I wanted to become a composer for games, which stemmed from studying the Violin, and falling in love with the work of Nobuo Uematsu, during childhood. Eventually, this led me to become a first-study vocalist, and second-study composer, where I achieved a second-class upper degree with honours in music at Edinburgh College (formerly Stevenson College) and Abertay University (Dundee). Here, I even won the 2011 Easton Watt Prize for Composition and began 'Little Record Girl', which is the pseudonym I use for all my freelance work, music, gaming and otherwise. As 'Little Record Girl', I also recorded my own EP and have performed in venues across Scotland. While I was busy being immersed in the world of music, it was here that my passion for writing about games came to fruition. During my honours project, I focused on the development of adaptive game audio, and utilised software such as Fmod, to create my own adaptive game score. After graduating, I drew from this opportunity to pursue a career in game journalism, where I began writing news, op-ed features, and tech tutorials for bylines such as TechRadar, GamerByte and iMore. With that experience under my belt, I got my role as a hardware staff writer for NetworkN Media, where I wrote daily news pieces, hardware reviews, guides, and tech tutorials. This then resulted in my role as the Senior Tech Writer at Dexerto, and latwe my current role as an editor doe GamesRadar+.When not typing away and creating pieces about the latest in gaming hardware, I'm playing them! Whether it's a Dreamcast, PS5, or Nintendo Switch, I'm bound to have it, sitting in amongst my growing anime figure and gaming merch collection. I also talk about everything to do with Nintendo every fortnight on N-Focus, a Nintendo-based podcast.rosalie.v.newcombe@gmail.comhttps://linktr.ee/littlerecordgirlwww.littlerecordgirl.com
