Completed a Bachelor of Science at Lincoln University 2023. Presently studying part time postgraduate Environmental Management.My undergraduate degree focused on bacteria, fungi and insects that infect our food crops along with entomology and ecology. As part of my degree, I completed a placement at a Plant and Food in Lincoln where I researched pseudomonas bacteria that infecting stone fruits and certain varieties of nuts. This has allowed me to further develop my lab skills required for research, and my understanding of invasive pathogens and microbiology along with gaining PCR experience. During my final semester I completed a Primary Industry paper that has allowed me to gain further insight into our valuable primary sector. My degree has increased my awareness of the importance of biosecurity to protect our environment, raising awareness around climate change and sustainability. As a mature student I have successfully averaged A/B grades while raising our family which required effective time management and organisation. I’m currently part of the ECan Biosecurity Advisory Group, which involves working alongside Ecan to understand possible new pests and diseases which may cause harm to our primary industries. Looking at trends on how pests and diseases move which can cause significant damage to our environment and agriculture sector. I’m grateful for this opportunity to work alongside knowledgeable members where I can gain further skill sets and continue education around biosecurity and environmental sustainability.I am excited to be entering the workforce and building my career in a valuable industry, where I can be involved in protecting New Zealand’s borders and environment, ensuring that our primary sectors are kept to a high environmental standard while providing food security both domestically and internationally.
