I am currently the Research Manager for the Accessibility Research Group at UCL and the Chair of the Transport Accessibility Rehabilitation Services Advisory Network (TARSAN). The Accessibility Research Group (ARG) is a multi-disciplinary research team that conducts interdisciplinary research into accessibility. The objective of ARG is to aim to understand how people navigate their environment during everyday activities, and how poor design of transport systems could be improved to provide accessible systems that enable everyone to achieve their full potential. We are a team of over 30 people including PhD students, researchers and lecturers.TARSAN is a large group of users of the transport-built environment system who can have an active voice in shaping the research we carry out. Members of TARSAN can raise and discuss their needs and concerns about their accessibility issues directly with us and, where appropriate participate actively in our research. TARSAN is a collaboration UCL, the Aspire Centre and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH).I previously ran the CRUCIBLE Centre for Lifelong Health and Wellbeing. This is a cross UCL initiative that brings together research from all disciplines to examine and improve lifelong health and wellbeing. My role was in the day-to-day management of the project as well as shaping its long term growth. The tasks of the role are varied but require an understanding of research methods and funding. In particular the role requires engaging with researchers, academics, charities and government to match skills and ideas and to encourage collaboration.
