I am a degree qualified wine professional with 27 years experience in the global wine industry, having worked in wine retail, wholesale, brokerage, import, export, storage, education / recruitment and auctions during this period in the South African, United Kingdom and Australian wine markets.Since 2008 I have owned and operated The Wine Empire, trading in old, rare, premium, super premium and highly collectible wines and whiskies from around the world and Empire Wine Group with a focus on secondary market auctions. Whilst these businesses continues to go from strength to strength, I have recently established and partnered in the Neue Force Wine Trading Co & Brave New World Wine (importing amazing South African, New Zealand and Canadian wines into Australia) & The Whisky Empire (importing rare & collectible whisky).My key projects are to continue the expansion of the Global Fine Wine Challenge (Formerly Six Nations Wine Challenge) & how this truly unique international wine show can be grown into a internationally recognised wine benchmark driving awareness and trade opportunities for all participants from the 5 Countries - Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, USA & Canada.... and... the continuation and expansion of the long established Australian & New Zealand Boutique Wine Show founded in 1996.In my spare time, I immerse myself in music (classic & hard rock) working with and on marketing and promotion of the Aussie/US based supergroup The Dead Daisies (comprised of Guns n Roses, Whitesnake, Motley Crüe, Thin Lizzy, Dio, Billy Idol and Rolling Stones superstars) (www.thedeaddaisies.com).My Colleagues know me as a driven, innovative, determined, hard working, problem solver with a strong focus on customer service and results. Managing Director & OwnerSix Nations Wine Challenge Jan 2017 - PresentSydney, AustraliaThe Six Nations Wine Challenge is a Global Wine Events Platform delivering a rare & exclusive opportunity to all participating wine estates, media & partners by identifying, recognising & show-casing to both trade and consumers the very best of the best ‘NEW WORLD WINES’ & promoting their outstanding quality, diversity & richness.Since 2003, this unique wine challenge has seen the most influential wine judges from each of the leading New World wine countries (Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Canada, Chile & United States) invite their top 100 wines covering 15 typical varietal classes & have them all compete against each other in a giant blind tasting of 600 wines. The objective was to establish the Nation of Show by judging and nominating Wine of Show, Red and White Wine of Show and a range of gold medals.The New World nations were chosen in light of their proven quality coupled with their judge’s view that there was sufficient range to compete and to win.Annually the judges make their selections in light of their intimate knowledge of their own nation’s wines. Following that the head office in Australia sends out the invitations to compete and the wines are shipped to a secret location in Sydney. During August the judges convene for a week in Sydney and when they go home they are unaware of the winners until the embargo date. Everything is judged by numbers!In October each year the trophy presentation formal dinner is held in Sydney. The guest list features the winning winemakers, the sponsors and the Ambassadors and Consuls General of each visiting country. The results are released to all entry wine companies and to media around the world.The following day all 600 entry wines are featured in a large public tasting event in Sydney titled Thinkers & Drinkers. Generally 500 guests and members of the media attend to sample the choices made by the six judges.
