About Ross Mcgowan

I am a Sheffield Hallam University graduate with a degree in Sport Development with Coaching, graduating with Second Class Honours (First Division). My journey began with Basketball England, where I spent approximately five years. I started as an Intern and later transitioned into the role of Performance Development Officer. In this capacity, my primary responsibility was to aid in the development and implementation of the performance pathway within the organisation. During a restructuring of the organisation, I seized the opportunity to advance my career by taking on the role of Safeguarding & Compliance Manager. In this capacity, I was responsible for the development, proposal, implementation, integration, monitoring, and review of safeguarding and compliance policies and procedures.Following my tenure at Basketball England, I accepted a position as the Wellbeing & Protection Coordinator at the Scottish Football Association. In this role, I spearheaded the implementation of the Scottish FA's child wellbeing and protection strategy, "Getting It Right for Every Child in Scottish Football," across the non-professional game. Collaborating with both adult and youth football, my responsibility was to introduce a wellbeing-centered approach to the sport. Furthermore, I conducted annual audits of the non-professional game to ensure continual progress. This role also entailed supporting the non-professional game in addressing concerns and conducting investigations, along with addressing any raised issues within the Scottish FA. Regrettably, the role at the Scottish FA came to an end due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This led me to assume a role at the Lighthouse Laboratory in Glasgow, a crucial facility in the UK's response to Covid-19 testing.Subsequent to my time at the Lighthouse Lab, I took on the role of Safeguarding & Compliance Officer at Scottish Cycling. In this position, I oversaw all safeguarding matters for approximately 10 months before having the opportunity to return to the Scottish FA as their Wellbeing & Protection Coordinator.I have now transitioned into the role of Club Licensing Officer for the Scottish FA, where I work within the Licensing Department to elevate standards across our member clubs within the game.
