I am a Professor of Industrial and Organizational (I/O) Psychology at Saint Mary's University in Halifax, Canada. I received my BSc and MSc in Management from the University of Lausanne and my PhD in I/O Psychology from the University of Neuchatel (both in Switzerland). Before moving to Saint Mary’s, I worked as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Lausanne, Switzerland and as an Assistant Professor of Human Resource Management at the University of Manitoba, Canada.I am an expert in hiring and personnel selection. My research examines applicants’ behaviors during the selection process, including their use of impression management tactics, faking, or other strategies to help them secure jobs. I also study interviewers’ and organizations’ attempts to detect and deal with faking, employment discrimination and bias, how to use new technologies (e.g., social media, asynchronous video interviews, AI) as part of the selection process, and developing new forms of assessments (e.g., for workplace psychopathy).My research has been published in top scientific journals including the Journal of Applied Psychology, Personnel Psychology, the Journal of Vocation Behavior, or the Journal of Business Ethics. I am an Associate editor for the International Journal of Selection and Assessment, and a board member for several journals. I am also the author of "The Psychology of Job Interviews" edited by Routledge and a co-author of "Recruitment and Selection in Canada" (8th Ed) edited by TopHat.I teach classes in Personnel Psychology, Advanced Assessment, Training & Development, or Deception. For instance, I studied how applicants use honest and deceptive impression management tactics during job interviews and how recruiters perceive and evaluate them. I also studied how both applicants and recruiters can prepare themselves for job interviews, by analyzing advices offered in popular literature and how it evolves over time. Finally I was interested in how applicants use extracurricular activities as a way to differentiate their résumés from their counterparts and how recruiters interpret it.
