Development of next-generation biowearable devices

Development and training of deep learning models which interface and supplement the adaptive deep brain stimulator used for Parkinson's treatment.

Working under Dr. Keith Gagnon, I was apart of a team of researchers who were tasked with developing and optimizing a next generation genome sequencing pipeline specifically contracted to sequence the SARS-CoV-2 genome. We provided near real time sequencing results for patient positive samples received from all over the state of Illinois. My duties entailed developing, testing, and optimizing the python code which instructed the OT-2 liquid handling robots to perform nearly all library preparation steps necessary to sequence the genome on a Oxford Nanopore minion. Furthermore, I performed library prep manually when robots were occupied.

I worked as a research assistant in the Cognitive Affective x Behavioral & Integrative Neuroscience Lab (CABIN) conducting multiple EEG based experiments. The studies investigated event related potentials (ERP) relating to reward and adverse anticipatory signals. My experience resulted in two first author publications and five conference posters.

I was awarded the Student Undergraduate Research Fellowship where I work as a research assistant in the Upper Michigan Brain Tumor Center. There I investigated the effect GABA had on epithelial to mesenchymal transition.Furthermore, I shadowed UP Health Systems practicing neurosurgeon Dr. Sonia Geschwindt.
