Since January 2011 I have been working at Ancon Technologies/Naneum in Canterbury. My role as a research physicist involves many aspects of the development and testing of novel aerosol particle detectors. My main accountability is for the development and maintenance of the software used on the instruments. Currently, I am the sole software developer in the company. The software is used to control the instruments (specifically FPGA chips, Compact RIO, NI DAQ boards and an RS-485 particle counter) and provide a GUI. The software platform is National Instruments LabVIEW. In addition I have carried out experimental work to turn theoretical ideas into practical implementation. An example of this is to use a specific property of the nucleation process to determine the surface properties of nano-particles. My other accountabilities include the calibration and testing of Scanning Mobility Particle Sizer (SMPS) and Condensation Particle Counter (CPC) instruments.
