I consider myself a modern renaissance woman who has always followed my passions to find my way in this complicated and amazing world. From a young age, I was interested in teaching and had a gift for helping others learn math. I followed this passion by getting my BA from Texas Christian University in Math with a secondary teaching certificate for Math and Physics.After teaching for three years, I realized that even though my passion was still teaching, I wanted to be in the high tech industry. My high tech career became a path of growth and discovery that landed me at Hewlett-Packard (HP). My husband and I decided to adopt two children. These wonderful children came from traumatic birth families. Once it became clear that our children had special needs and needed much love, care, and support, my passion for my children and learning collided. I left my job at HP to devote my time and energy to taking care of my children. I found that I had to learn how to work within several systems: health care, mental health care, education, and legal. As I learned about these different systems and how to navigate and advocate for the needs of my children, I found other parents that needed help and guidance. My passion for teaching stepped in again when I formed a parent support group, acted as a parent advocate, and, at times, helped people to understand the issues surrounding children with Learning Differences.Now that both of my children have graduated from high school, I am endeavoring to pass on my learning to others who parent and work with people with Learning Differences via my company, Learning Differences World.
