Physician Health Program: Our mission is supporting and advocating for physicians and physicians-in-training. Our clinical services support physicians and trainees in overcoming challenging issues that can impact their health and well-being. These can include: physical or mental illness, substance use, relationship issues, workplace issues and burnout. Our preventative and educational services address burnout, stress management, conflict resolution and improvement of collegiality.Responsibilities:• Manages and oversees a clinical team who support the psychiatric care for all BC physicians, residents, medical students, and their immediate families dealing with personal and/or professional concerns. At this time, we care for approx. 1300 individuals with moderate-complex mental health concerns. • Manages concurrently the Physician Health Program of PEI; Physician Health Program of Newfoundland and Labrador; and the Dentist Wellness Program of BC• Successfully strategized and re-structured clinical services budget and mental health service delivery based on program demand. In 2020, we had 7% utilization rate of our program which grew to 15% utilization in 2021• Successfully re-balanced $4 million dollar program budget• Leads quality improvement projects with a focus on change management and optimizing mental health service delivery• Leads system delivery health care evaluation projects, such as pre and post standardized, evidence-based clinical surveys to gauge effectiveness of the program• Manages key health care vendor relationships with counselling network, health-focused community partners, medical affairs, and all health authorities in B.C.• Responsible for bringing in $900,000 in revenue annually to the program and key player in contract negotiations

Responsibilities:• Case Manager for approx. 150 clinical cases of medical trainees and physicians at any give time who presented with wide range of physical and mental health concerns • Received new intakes and performs clinically appropriate needs assessments. Actioned high risk scenarios competently and calmly. Co-created and implemented case management strategy and follow-up plans tailored to clients’ unique concerns. Provided on-going peer support to clients using counselling and life coaching skills • In a leadership role, trained and mentored new Clinical Coordinator staff• Pro-actively liaised and networked with other Doctor’s of BC staff and external stakeholders to further the vision of a connected, resilient physician community. Developed a Provincial Psychiatristry Recruitment Plan which recruited 40 new Psychiatrists to treat patients• Screened and oriented new community counsellors, coaches, and therapists. Implemented quality standards in the program

• Worked as Intake Counsellor for PHP Program by providing advice, support, counselling, advocacy, and referral services to BC physicians, spouses, and dependents• Counselled clients struggling with depression, anxiety, addictions, family breakdown, and more in solution-focused therapy sessions. Conducted over 400 counselling session in role with individuals, families, and couples.• Provided consultations to human resources managers regarding workplace performance and retention, teambuilding, workplace conflict and trauma outreach services to affected employees• Recipient of numerous positive quality assurance reports (to account for great work as a Therapist) from clients and organizations

Centre For Student Involvement And Careers

• Counselled students on a range of personal and career development topics. Held regular counselling hours for undergraduate and graduate students• Developed, implemented, and evaluated programs that supported student learning and career development for undergraduate students. Example: Led an internship program in an unexpected staff absence and independently placed 105 students into community-based internships in a 3-month period• Worked strategically with campus partners (i.e., departments, professors, student associations, and more) to leverage and broaden the approach to student development

• Coordinated a multi-year CIHR funded public health study named Populations Health Research to End Homelessness (PHIR) Project. The purpose of the research initiative is to evaluate the effectiveness of municipal and provincial legislation focused on homelessness and social housing in Vancouver, Calgary, Ottawa, and Toronto• Collected data from: (1) a comprehensive document review; (2) an analysis of changes in population level indicators; and, (3) semi-structured interviews with key stakeholders involved in the development and implementation of homelessness legislation in Vancouver• Developed a municipal case study that can be used to inform future policy development on issues of housing affordability and homelessness in Vancouver; and, (2) contributed to the creation of a conceptual model of how municipal homelessness legislation impacts homelessness and improves health equity outcomes in Canadian communities.

• Coordinated Health and Housing in Transition study’s field office in Downtown Eastside including planning and directing interviewer training sessions, training and supervising interviewers, coordinating the interview schedule, maintaining relationships with study sites, liaising on all aspects of data entry, and participating in regularly scheduled teleconferences, and assisting investigators with producing the study deliverables• Coached staff, medical students, and residents on how to interact sensitively and culturally appropriate to individuals who were typically homeless, from First Nations background, and had a history of trauma• Supervised staff of researchers and administrative assistants • Acted as key contact for study with numerous community health organizations to facilitate successful tracking and retention of participants. • Developed and implemented new Career Peer Program which resulted in trained Peer Educators (university students) who advised fellow students on resumes, cover letters and interviews as well as who delivered career-related workshops and presentations. Today, this program still runs at UBC and has provided in excess of 1200+ hours of help to students• Sensitively and effectively helped students and alumni process their feelings, while empowering them to succeed in their personal and career endeavors. Consistently received excellent ratings from students through client self-report counselling evaluations

- Conducted one-on-one interviews and collected saliva and breathalyser samples from patients in the Emergency Department of Vancouver General Hospital and St. Paul's Hospital as part of an on-going drug monitoring study, which examines the proportion of ED patients who use or misuse substances, the characteristics of their substance use and related harms- Interacted with hospital staff and physicians to sample a high volume of patients form the Treatment and Acute areas of the Emergency department- Displayed excellent interpersonal skills in liaising with patients who were often in a state of distress. Communicated clearly and compassionately with them in order to meet study mandates

Centre For Concurrent Disorders -Vancouver, Canada Area

• Counselled individuals with concurrent disorders (having both mental health condition and substance use disorder) living in Vancouver.
