This is how I got into accountancy. I retrained and studied the AAT course with BPP. I concentrated on sole traders, particularly the CIS sector. Its still going strong and I dread/enjoy April, May and June which is when the guys arrive with their carrier bags!

Having had a career in marketing with blue chip companies such as Gallaher and Courage. During which time I studied for my HNC in business studies at Luton College of further education. (Now a university. I think)I went into business in my early thirties and started a coffee distribution enterprise. It grew very fast and life was good. It seemed I could do no wrong. I was supplying Formula 1 teams, local councils etc. and had plenty of time to watch my young children grow. Then life changed with the switch to automated small vending machines. That`s another story!One frustration I always had was my accountant. I always presented good books which were reconciled with the bank etc. I could never understand why they charged so much!Well, thats why I re-trained and got into accountancy. I started Luton data first which was a fairly simple affair leading to Sturgess and Co when I teamed up with Blaine Sturgess.It was from my dealings as a businessman that shaped the way I believe an accountants should be run. So far it has proved very successful and our firm continues to flourish. I always had a vision of menu pricing and fair play when it came to fees. The package works!
