Following the sale of NTA Monitor Ltd to Intertek plc, Roy transferred the day-to-day running of the company to the management team and moved into a non-executive chairman role.

Roy founded NTA Monitor in 1996. Believed to be the first commercial penetration testing company in the UK.NTA Monitor was a founder members of the CESG CHECK scheme starting with the pilot phase in 1998, and has been a green light CHECK company ever since. Later NTA Monitor was involved in the creation of the CREST scheme in 2006 and helped develop and deliver the professional examinations.Roy wrote the initial testing software tools for the company. Some were released under GPL open source license and are available on github: https://github.com/royhillsNTA Monitor provide a full range of security testing services including risk management, infrastructure and application testing, and IA consultancy for both government and commercial organisations. They have offices in UK and Malaysia.In 2018 NTA Monitor became part of the Intertek family within the Connected World global business line, and re-branded as Intertek-NTA.

Roy is a volunteer assessor and interviewer for the penetration testing role of the CESG Certified Professional (CCP) scheme.

Roy was a member of the CREST assessors panel, who are responsible for setting the CREST examinations and examining candidates. Roy was involved in developing and examining candidates for CREST CPSA, CRT, CCT (Infrastructure and Application), CCSAS, CCSAM and CR-TSA professional qualifications.Roy was also involved in CREST advocacy and internationalisation including helping with international roll out to Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong and Malaysia.

Roy was involved with NTA Monitor Sdn. Bhd. since it's formation in 2003. In his role as non-executive director, he advised on and monitored strategy, resources and performance.He also conducted staff training, presentations, and attended meetings with key clients and prospects. In addition, he spends some of his time in the region to promote the CREST cyber security framework and professional certification.Following the acquisition of the NTA Monitor group by Intertek Plc in June 2018, Roy transferred the day-to-day operations to the management team and stepped down from his board role in December 2018.

Roy developed material for the penetration testing BSc and MSc modules at the University of Greenwich and lectured them for a couple of years before licensing the material and handing over to the university lecturers. He also developed the penetration testing short course that was ran for several years during the summer as a commercial operation.Roy retains the intellectual property for the module and associated labs and training materials.

Roy joined Inmarsat on a one-year contract to manage their global IP network and Unix systems.This was an interesting place to work, with lots of great people and a large and diverse network. Learned a lot about managing an eclectic mix of systems and protocols spread over a wide area.

Roy joined EUnet-GB as Network Manager in 1993. At that time EUnet-GB were the first UK ISP, operating from the computer lab at the University of Kent at Canterbury.During this time, Roy was involved in the beginnings of the UK Internet, and was involved in connecting the early ISPs including Demon, Pipex and BTnet; and corporate clients including Intel and HP.This was a hugely exciting time, and although it was only a few years I learnt a stack about the internet, Unix, TCP/IP, and managing a team in a rapidly evolving environment. Some nostalgic memories: UUCP over trailblazer modems, a network infrastructure with bandwidths measured in kilobits, the pre-web internet, and the excitement when NCSA mosaic came along.EUnet GB was sold to the American ISP PSInet in 1995.
