I began my career in research two years ago, joining a team at the Urban Institute's Justice Policy Center as a Community Researcher (CR) on a project evaluating DC's Restorative Justice Program. In 2023, I joined JPC's Community Safety and Well-Being practice area full time. My work focuses on restorative justice practices across settings and at different intercepts of the CLS for youth and adults with serious and violent offenses, My other topical areas on current work includes Deinstitutionalization of Status Offenses (DSO), Credible Messengers, building black wealth, and responsible fatherhood programs.I'd describe myself as a mixed-methods researcher in process/implementation, outcome, and impact program evaluation.My goal, personally and professionally, is to help individuals, groups, and communities heal from the injustices of the CLS by empowering those closest to the issues through self-determination. Self-determination was the greatest single factor in me overcoming incarceration, homelessness, health and financial instability, victimization, and many other circumstances people in community experience. My professional work has involved elevating the voices of those most impacted by the work in methods so we can develop effective community-based interventions. One initiative I am working on is called 'Healing nJustice,' a future reentry program that will serve adult men with serious and violent offenses through restorative practices using an empowerment approach.
