My teaching career started when I decided to move to South Korea to teach English as a foreign language, following almost six years working as a designer and site manager at a landscaping firm in Brighton. I spent just under two years teaching English to Kindergarten and Elementary students at Sinmira Feinschule in Gwangju, South Korea, where I developed a passion for teaching English and was convinced to take up teaching as my profession. After returning to the UK in 2018, I was accepted onto the Teach First training programme and began studying for a PGDE (postgraduate diploma in education) whilst working as an English teacher at Longhill High School in Rottingdean, East Sussex. I am due to complete this qualification in July of this year.My aim as a teacher is to use my knowledge, life experience and positive attitude to inspire pupils to think critically about written and spoken English and to foster a lifelong passion for reading, writing and communicating. I wholeheartedly believe English is a vibrant and creative subject which can challenge, motivate and engage young minds to consider the depth of human experience and develop a rich knowledge of the world through a variety of literary forms.Outside of my life as a teacher, I am an enthusiastic cook, artist and hiker. I also love writing and drawing comics.
