For The Mercury News, I wrote community news stories for local community newspapers. I also rewrote and organized the police logs for Saratoga and Campbell's community newspapers.For The Nevada Independent, I wrote local political stories when I was based in Reno, Nevada. I covered a school walkout, immigration issues, candidate forums and roundtables.

At The Record-Courier in Gardnerville, Nevada I covered everything from crime and courts to education and breaking news. I covered the Douglas County District Court every Monday and Tuesday morning through afternoon and filed the crime stories for the newspaper. I also covered the Douglas County School Board and the education news throughout the Douglas County School District. In addition to crime and education I also covered breaking news as it happens, including fires, political announcements and crime breaking news.

Greater Los Angeles Area

As a Business Intern at the L.A. Times I wrote around 40 clips in about three months that were published on latimes.com and some features were published in print. I wrote a number of real estate stories about the goings-on in the crazy real estate market in Los Angeles and in southern California. In addition to real estate stories, I also wrote a number of business features, including one on the business of the Great American Solar Eclipse and a new car-sharing company coming to Los Angeles that specifically aims at targeting low income residents. I also worked on the morning breaking news shift two to three times a week. During that shift I would search the wire and national news websites to find stories to publish right away, with a quick turnaround. During these breaking news shifts, I became used to writing two to three stories per day.

Reno, Nevada Area

I worked as a reporter for Noticiero Movil during my last two semesters of college. Noticiero Movil is a news website from journalism students within the Reynolds School of Journalism. The website provides English and Spanish content throughout northern Nevada, with a focus on the Latino community.

As the News Editor of the Sagebrush, I was in charge of just about every aspect of the news section. I came up with a budget every week, I wrote breaking news, I learned to lay out a page in InDesign, I learned how to instruct and lead a news team. I worked with volunteers to build upon their reporting and writing skills. I also wrote a number of stories each week, ranging from two stories each week to around four. This position taught me to be a leader in a newsroom setting.
