Robert is a tenacious litigator with a practised eye for detail and an instinct for the sort of clear-eyed strategy which measures success against a client’s commercial imperatives. He has global experience in financial services litigation and professional negligence arising in the context of insolvency and fraud, and has worked over time on a range of globally significant disputes. Robert is an EMBA graduate, financially literate, and comfortable in a forensic accounting environment. He is also a measured and perceptive advocate.Robert’s clients are often the liquidators of failed investment vehicles, as well as listed and private companies. He acts for banks, shareholders and private equity, and is experienced in both plaintiff and defendant litigation work.Notable cases include acting for the liquidators of the US$2.6B Sino Forest Corporation fraud in proceedings brought against valuers for negligence and for dishonest assistance against associated wrongdoers, and for the liquidators of the notorious GFC era fraud Weavering Macro Fixed Income Fund in proceedings for fraud and negligence brought against that fund’s auditors.Robert is admitted to practise in the Cayman Islands and the Hong Kong SAR, as well as in Australian jurisdictions.Prior to joining Quinn Emanuel, Robert practised in Hong Kong with Lipman Karas, an internationally recognised litigation boutique, and before this in the Cayman Islands with Carey Olsen, an Offshore Magic Circle firm. Robert began his career in Australia with Mallesons Stephen Jaques (later King & Wood Mallesons), the then market leading Australian "top-tier" firm, where he spent six years.
