Learning Resource Centre Tutor
CurrentTo support students with accessing and using the resources available to them via the Elizabeth School of London's library and our partner's libraries. Provide workshops on how to research effectively, improve academic writing and to complete Harvard referencing. Monitor and maintain the resources at Learning Resource Centre and make it a welcome location for students to study, research and write.
Content Writer
Ensuring the bid library is kept up to date, I contact various colleagues across SCC to review their documents. Aside from this, I also produce a fortnightly Market Intelligence report, accounting for the Commerical and Public Setcors. A large portion of my recent work has involved creating Vendor-related documents and providing support to new document creation.
Learning Support Mentor
To support a student with Autism with day-to-day life at secondary school, including one-to-one sessions to incorporate speech and language therapy, occupational therapy and emotional support throughout the school week. Within the classroom the role extended to supporting other SEND students through understanding their EHC plans and their individual needs.
Graduate Researcher
Supporting students with the Graduate Outcomes Survey.
Volunteering Coordinator
This role was an opportunity to learn and adapt fast to the world of work. Working in a Higher Education environment meant a busy schedule, with no two days the same. As part of a team of 3 recent graduates, I had the chance to learn new communication skills and work from different parts of the university. I worked closely with Careers+ Teams, including covering for a receptionist post for a brief period. Beyond this I worked from two other offices, the Student's Union Office and the Graduate+ Award Office. These environments were all different in team composition and function. The role presented the opportunity to network with recruiting companies for voluntary opportunities, and for internal events such as recruitment fairs. The BCU Volunteering Project itself was set up in September 2019 to run for the academic year with the goal of creating a solid base for volunteering at the university.
Professional Mentoring Programme
I took part in a mentoring programme with my employer, Birmingham City University. As a mentee I was put in touch with a mentor that had links and shared passions with my career goals at the time. I had an interest in SEN education and the role of a SENCO. I had regular meetings via Zoom with my mentor in which we discussed career paths, explored CPD opportunities and reached out to their colleagues and previous colleagues. This programme led me to my role at Highclare Senior School.
Content Writer
This role was new at Atlantic Shopping, made before I started to assist with maintaining their website as it is their main platform for sales as a furniture company. My tasks included writing product descriptions, content for the blog and advice section, working in a team of four to run the website and learning SEO. I learned about website maintenance, Google Ads, and marketing as well as plenty of information about bar stools, dining chairs and storage units.
Caregiver
This job focused on holistic, client-centred care. My role as a Caregiver was to support my clients, maintaining their independence in their own homes as best as possible. From simply spending time with them and having a cup of tea, to taking them shopping, to the doctors, or cooking for/with them and supporting them with their medication. I worked closely with the office team and other Caregivers in Felixstowe (where I was based) as we ensured our clients' best interests, well-being and overall health was at the centre of what we did. I worked in this role on a part-time/bank basis during my studies at Birmingham City University.
