Postdoctoral Research Fellow
Investigating how gut microbial species contribute to the onset and progression of colorectal cancer
Researcher Phd Student
Working on bacterial symbionts present in Bathymodiolus mussels from the hydrothermal vents of the Pacific and the Atlantic deep-sea. I combine proteomic, genomic and microscopic tools to study how the symbionts and host interact with each other and with their evnvironment.
Project Fellow- Proteomics And Structural Biology Unit
Investigating the toxic effects of a controversial clinical immunosuppressant drug Cyclosporine A (CsA) on early morphogenesis of Zebrafish. CsA therapy is often continued during pregnancy in conditions such as organ transplantations and autoimmune diseases. We identified a spectrum of cellular proteins involved in physiological processes whose expression was modulated by CsA adminstration. We also observed severe blood regurgitation in heart chambers, absence of blood circulation in vessels, pericardial and yolk sac edema.
Master'S Dissertation- Zebrafish Genomics
My Master's project involved creating a trangenic line of Zebrafish as an animal model of cardiovascular research. I identified and cloned an flourescent-tagged promoter of a heart-specific gene in Zebrafish embryos to create a transgenic line of zebrafish expressing fluorescense exclusively in the heart. Additionally, I also participated in a collective effort to launch the beta version of the online community resource genome database called as the Zebrafish genomewiki.
