I started as a camp counselor for this Fall basketball camp for children in grades 3-5 when I joined the Upper Darby High School Girls Basketball team. Each Fall, during my high school years and a few years of my college career, I helped teach basketball basics to 30-40 children. I was then offered to serve as camp director and served as such for a few more years. I built a schedule of practices and drills, managed and delegated responsibility to camp counselors, and maintained communication with parents/families.

I interned for this financial firm while in school and then launched my career with the firm after graduating. During my time here, I planned agency events and events for individual advisors. These included seminars and client dinners, where our financial advisors had the opportunity to nurture relationships with current clients and meet prospective clients. I also managed the design and fulfillment of all marketing collateral.

I interned here for six months and then continued working part-time for another six months while in school. Throughout that year, I supported the management and operations of Sunoco’s convenience stores. I kept the pricebook system updated, created store schematics, compiled invoices, and built and analyzed retail comparison reports.

This role taught me a great deal about customer service, working both at the register and in the deli. I helped maintain and organize the layout of the deli, and monitored health codes for all fresh foods and beverages. I also learned and practiced effective communication and teamwork in a fast-paced environment.

This was my first internship, and I would say it sparked my interest in event planning. I helped organize the foundation’s largest fundraising event, by cold-contacting local and national businesses for product donations and by researching and hiring entertainment vendors. I also provided day-of support for the event.
