Currently employed as a Paramedic Practitioner by Salutem PCN, based at Humberstone Medical Centre under the ARRS scheme. Working alongside the GP’s, my main duty is to assess and treat patients with minor ailments and new/acute onset of symptoms, thus freeing the GP’s to concentrate on more complex and chronic cases. By referring to the NICE Guidelines/BNF/CBNF/LLR Antimicrobial guidelines, I am able to raise the correct scripts for the debriefing GP to sign off after morning and afternoon clinics. Any more complex patients will also be discussed at the debrief and advice given.I am also currently enrolled at DMU on the Level 7 Supplementary and Independent Prescribing course. Plus, I have undertaken online Asthma training to be able to recognise and start treatment using SABA and ICS inhalers prior to referral and review by the Asthma Nurse. I worked as part of a multi-disciplinary group of medical professionals based at the Clinical Navigation Hub in Leicester. We triage telephone calls from patients and other HCP’s, to find the best clinical pathway for patients, with hospital avoidance being the main priority. We also provided home visiting for GP’s. The main 2 pieces of software we used were SystmOne and Adastra. I have also used ICE previously in the hospital setting.

Based at the Leicester Royal Infirmary, I have joined the team from DHU to clinically assess patients presenting to the Emergency Department. Depending on the severity of their illness, I will then find the correct care pathway for that individual.

Contracting to East Midlands Ambulance Service via HAYS Healthcare in the emergency control center, I worked alongside other paramedics, nurses, midwives and mental health professionals, triaging patients via phone using the 'Triage Assessment System' and upgrading, downgrading or finding alternative care pathways for callers to the 999 service based on the severity of the emergency. This assignment also included the familiraisation and use of the 'Computer Aided Dispatch' system.

My role within the East Midlands (EMAS) was fast paced and dynamic. Leicester has one of the busiest A & E departments outside of London. It is also one of the most culturally diverse cities in the UK with an expansive socioeconomic community.As a paramedic with EMAS I was deployed either as part of a 2-person crew or as a solo responder on one of our rapid response vehicles.
