Knowledge was required of most IBM utilities, VSAM, FILEADE, JCL, JCL PROCEDURES and PROCS, COBOL, COBOL ll, EASYTRIEVE PLUS, FOCUS, DB2 and experience with interfacing with the end-user. The bulk of the contract consisted of development or the reinvention of current resident programs that were in COBOL using EASYTRIEVE PLUS for product generation. The programming shop work was where one would receive a work order to supply a particular product or requirement. You would have to respond within 24 hours of receiving the work order about the estimation of completion. Afterwards, one would commence to complete the tasks stated above. The above stated is true with the exception of customer interface, and this usually requires some type of extraction and conversion techniques so to interpret the essence of what the end-user is saying to ensure that the end results manifests itself into the desired product.

In this capacity, I was the sole point of contact for three departmental systems - Financial, Weapons, and Logistical. The systems supported approximately 45 customers who required a variety products/reports/ad hoc queries from the systems. On any given day, I would be tasked to execute ad hoc queries using QMF to generate product reports. Also, testing embedded queries to ensure the creation of the required resultant set and depending on the exact nature of the customer request, I would have to interface with several customers to ensure the correct product is produced. I have worked with all aspects the DB2 SQL query environment and have provided all the expertise for the physical and logical design of the databases in which I have managed.
