About Chris Carpenter

Hey there!I have been in the industry for a number of years now. Long enough to know that making games is what I want to do for a career over pretty much anything else. I have had the opportunity to work on a wide variety of titles in a wide variety of roles. A majority of my time has been spent in the QA department in one form or another, and I know my way around the Atlassian toolset well enough to have taken on the role of an admin at a couple of studios.Recently, I have spent a fair amount of my time designing and maintaining workflows and automated workflow tools. Most of this has been done using Jiras built in workflow automation toolset. Its pretty powerful stuff once you get your head around how it all works together. The tools have REALLY helped out with the transition to a remote working environmnet.

Listed skills include Video Games, Game Design, Game Development, Photoshop, and 19 others.

Quality Assurance Iii / Atlassian Admin

Current

Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Recently moved back to the RPG game, and joined the team working on the games core combat systems. Looking forward to it!

Nov 2024 - Present

Quality Assurance Ii / Atlassian Admin

Oakville, Ontario, Canada

When Prodigies second game was announced I put in an application to join the team, and was successful! While here, I continues my atlassian admin work, and created all kinds of automated workflow tools that integrated jira with confluence, git, and slack. I led the QA effort on a number of different features, including the implementation of the games multiplayer system.Additionally, I started a kind of Jira help desk where folks around the company can come and submit support tickets. My admin work that started as a kind of side project has blown up to be something that the company now relies on. At present there is just myself and one other admin, but we hope to onboard others in the near future!

Apr 2021 - Nov 2024

Qa Engineer

Burlington, Ontario, Canada

This was my first time working on a true live service productI had a heck of a lot of learning to do, and I really hit the ground running. The team I was on started off with improvements to the RPG games PVP back end. We went on to take on a major engine swap - and I was able to leverage my atlassian admin skills to put together an easy to use workflow that allowed us to easily see the status of the project and manage it. I also led the QA effort here, coordenating five other testers.

Feb 2020 - Nov 2024

Sr. Qa Analyst

Toronto

Moved back to Toronto after 3 years with BVG to join their growing Toronto studio. I have taken up the position of Lead QA on the facebook messenger game Galatron. Its a pretty cool title, and its using some brand new tech in the Facebook Messenger platform, so go have a look! What are you waiting for?In addition to my QA duties, I am also the build master for the game, and handle all of the merging and deploying for our various servers

Jul 2016 - Feb 2019

Associate Producer

London, Canada Area

Currently working as an Associate Producer for Big Viking Games. Have two separate teams, working on two different projects, split between two separate cities. We are making some pretty awesome stuff in some super interesting ways. The studio is growing quickly, and I have been helping to lay a solid process foundation down that will expand with the teams and the games that we work on. We are very Atlassian and Google centric, and both of my teams are developing using HTML 5. Look for the links to our games below!Never stop learning, never stop growing, and never quit!

Jul 2015 - Jul 2016

Quality Assurance Team Lead

London, Canada Area

Big Viking has been, and continues to be, a heck of a fun place to work. I was the QA Team Lead and one of the Community Managers for the Tiny Kingdoms project. I have also done voice acting, project management, and I even helped convert the studio over to the Atlassian suite of project management software.

Oct 2013 - Sep 2015

Game Designer

London, Canada Area

I made my way up to this position with a lot of hard work, and a lot of learning everything I could from those around me. I started on BVGs Super Spin Slots, and have since moved onto work on Tiny Kingdoms and a couple of other projects too!

Jan 2015 - Jul 2015

Quality Control Tester

Toronto, Canada Area

I was part of the game play testing team at Ubisoft Toronto, working on Splinter Cell: Blacklist. My main focus was on the multiplayer side of the game, so I worked with both the COOP and PVP teams. We put in a lot of long hard hours, and it all paid off. The game has been getting fantastic reviews. The metacritic score at the time of writing this is between 82 and 84 (depending on the platform) Please feel free to check out the games web page for more details... http://splintercell.ubi.com/blacklist/en-ca/home/index.aspx

Oct 2012 - Aug 2013

Game Designer

Social Game Universe

Toronto

I completed an internship at SGU and was hired on full time. During my time with them I designed, balanced, and added to a number of social games. I also had the pleasure of designing two titles from the ground up with them. I mostly used google spreadsheets, excel, google docs, and photoshop while working. And my little toy U.S.S. Enterprise. Source of much inspiration!

Toronto

During my time with Hot Topic, I trained new staff, helped to open new stores, lead loss prevention efforts in two separate stores, and helped out with weekly scheduling. It was a busy store, and we needed to be on top of our game!

Aug 2010 - Jan 2012

Assistant Store Manager

Toronto, Ontario

I started my time with Starbucks as a barista, and eventually worked my way up to Assistant Manager of one of the busiest stores in Canada. I looked after payroll, inventory, scheduling, handled cash deposits, and all kinds of other things. The 4am wake up calls were a little rough, but the job was still all kinds of fun.

Feb 2006 - Jul 2010

Rusty Gear Studios

I started my company while in school after my work started to get noticed. I was doing odd jobs here and there that eventually led to some film, commercial, and video game work. A majority of it was modeling and rigging with some animation as well. I primarily used 3D Max and Photoshop
