As a child, I loved the idea of outlandish scientific instruments and space travel as I watched Star Trek with my father. Since joining SWRI in the Space Avionics department, this love has only grown. I am blessed to work in an environment with people of a multitude of backgrounds, from thermofluids to hypersonic railguns, and scientists leading missions to Pluto. I can learn about so many topics just by coming to work and talking to coworkers. There are so many fields that pique my interest, but satellites are a great fit for me. I am learning CSTOL and Python currently to talk with GSEOS and test our satellites before they are launched off into space, and I am also improving in my use of Labview for testing as well. SWRI has never sent off a board into space that has failed in flight, which is quite an achievement, and I’m honored to be a part of that team! My team in Space Avionics has experts in analog and digital design, as well as FPGAs and power. The diversity of knowledge this team shares makes it an environment conducive for a young engineer such as myself to start work and learn.

Systems Co-OpNeptune Technology Group Dec 2018 - Jul 2020Tallassee, AlWorked in RF Propagation/Systems group my first two work semesters, then moved to the Electrical Engineering group! Led one project to create a way to convert two AA batteries to a D-cell size, as well as provide access to the batteries once installed so that rechargeable batteries could be replaced. I performed testing on a magnet sensor to make sure it was functionally similar enough to a solid state reed switch to replace it entirely. In the few weeks I have been on this team, I have learned a lot about the shapes of directional antennas changing their effectiveness, how to use SolidWorks for CAD, and how to solder microscopic pieces onto circuit boards using solder paste and a hot plate (when the reflow oven is under maintenance). -
