Through my volunteer work at Arts Law I experienced a first-hand view of the difficulties that artists and arts organisations face when they have little access to legal redress. The Arts Law Centre is the only arts legal centre in Australia that provides free or low-cost legal advice to Australian artists. As a volunteer, I gained insight into the challenges artists face when dealing with complex legal issues such as intellectual property, as well as, an appreciation of the importance of community legal centres and pro bono legal work in supporting equal access to justice and the legal system.
