I completed a PhD under the supervision of Dr. Pawel Paszek, funded by a BBSRC Doctoral Training Partnership studentship. During my PhD I utilised single-cell time-lapse microscopy and population level studies to conduct quantitative single-cell analysis of the networks controlling T lymphocyte activation and signalling.Throughout my PhD I also worked as a demonstrator in undergraduate students lab sessions. This involved guiding small groups of undergraduate students through basic lab techniques including PCR, gel electrophoresis and western blotting.

During my PhD I carried out a 3-month professional internship in the Public Programmes office of Nowgen, which is an NHS-based organisation providing public engagement and involvement services. In order to develop an understanding of communicating science to a wider audience I led the organisation of several public engagement events including Schools and University Partnership Initiative (SUPI) Outreach days with A Level students. I also ran lab workshops for A Level students, getting students to extract and analyse their own DNA and learn about how genetics can help us understand evolution. My role also involved developing online genetics resources for schools with the aim of helping school students to engage with science by linking advances in genetics to real life situations.
