Teaching Assistant
I became involved in different aspects of school life and worked across a variety of year groups. I assisted class teachers through lesson plan preparation, classroom material collection and completion of pupil assessments. I was responsible for dealing with a range of situations that arose in response to differing pupil needs. In my first year I would often cover one-to-one and worked alongside children with Autism and children with challenging behaviour. During my second year I worked on a one-to-one basis with a child with Down’s Syndrome. Here I used Makaton to ensure the pupil was able to access the curriculum. I communicated with the individuals parents on a daily basis, in addition to the SEND Co-ordinator and other members of staff, on a need-to-know basis. I independently delivered Maths and Literacy interventions to help certain individuals progress in their knowledge and confidence. I pro-actively initiated child-led play, which included painting, water play and exploring in the sand pit. I voluntarily led a craft after-school club which helped pupils develop their physical and social skills.
