Managed the business of the Central Criminal Court, prepared parties in advance of Court for appearances. Recorded and perfected Orders made by the Judges, tracked and maintaining the database of cases on their journey through the Central Criminal Court. Administered the business of the court, swore in witnesses and juries, and ensured the court session is recorded accurately. Managed the jury and the taking of verdicts.

Port Melbourne

Worked as senior consultant providing strategic consultancy services to sporting organisations on partnerships with governments, sourcing of funding and overall governmental strategy. Lead strategic consultant for development of Launceston Tennis & Community Centre on behalf of Tennis Australia – drafted proposal for development, designed strategy to obtain government approval and funding and subsequently implemented agreed strategy on behalf of Tennis Australia. Drafted and presented proposals to senior politicians, including the State Premier and the Treasurer during invited site visit. Secured financial support from state and local government. Other projects included assisting a golf club in its dealings with the Regulator and drafting of new agreement including community support, development of proposal for an Indigenous Centre at Essendon Football Club and community consultations for a new cricket facility for Cricket Victoria.

Port Melbourne

I managed the Electorate Office and stakeholder communications for Martin Foley MP, who was Victorian State Minister with 4 portfolios including Disability, Ageing, Mental Health and Creative Industries. Responsible for project managing the delivery of 20 electoral promises - liaising with relevant stakeholders (including other Ministers, their staff and staff of the various responsible agencies) to understand blockages and to push agenda forward. Managed a staff of 4 and organised many fundraisers, community meetings and community information campaigns during this period. Played a key role in Minister Foley’s successful re-election.

I worked in the ACCC as Senior Analyst in the Transport and General Prices Division. We assessed undertakings made by monopoly service providers for third party access.

Dublin

Forfás was Ireland's national policy advisory body for enterprise and science. I worked on Science Policy for Enterprise on a range of policy research projects, in a team and independently and also on consultation and implementation plans. The project work included consultation with stakeholders, statistical analysis using Excel and SPSS, surveys and drafting of internal and published reports, recommendations and implementation plans.

I advocated for the promotion and protection of consumer interests and my work involved developing and refining policy issues, developing codes of practice and managing community consultation. I drafted correspondence to the Minister, the insurers and other stakeholders. I managed the website and drafted all consumer publications.

Garwyn handled personal injury claims for various clients, predominantly Lloyd’s syndicates. I managed approximately 300 files, predominantly employers and public liability in the High and Circuit Courts. I managed all aspects of the claim including the correct valuation of the claim so that underwriters were enabled to finalise their accounts.

Edinburgh, United Kingdom

I worked as a Solicitor in a large Scottish firm that dealt predominantly with Defendant Insurance work. I had responsibility for many personal injury files and acted on the instructions of insurance companies whose clients included all of the major UK insurers. The insured were involved in various industries and the files involved employer’s liability, road traffic accidents, public liability, property damage and industrial disease. I investigated, assessed and reported on claims, drafted court documents, briefed Advocates for court appearances, attended consultations, instructed at Court, adjusted accounts of expenses and negotiated the settlement of claims. I researched case law and statutory sources in order to advise clients and senior partners of the likely value and outcome of the case.

Melbourne/Werribee

I worked as a solicitor in a medium sized plaintiff firm with a file load of approximately 250 files in all types of personal injury matters including public liability, workers compensation, transport accidents, crimes compensation matters, property damage, superannuation permanent disability claims, and medical negligence. I instructed counsel in hearings, mediations and conferences, advised clients in relation to liability, settlement and general advice regarding litigation, drafting letters of advice, and Court documents. Regular appearance work was required in the role at all levels of Victorian Courts and Tribunals. I also assisted the partner in the common law department in various ways including in the running of Tribunal appeals, instructing and drafting of court documents. I worked 3 days a week in the Werribee branch office and was responsible for the supervision and training of the secretarial staff there and the general office management.

I completed my articled clerkship at Maurice Blackburn and qualified as a solicitor in March 2001 in the Occupiers/Product Liability Department. I was primarily involved in the ‘client contact’ side of litigation and on files that had been litigated. I instructed at hearings in the Supreme, County and Magistrates’ Courts. I instructed in many mediations and represented Plaintiffs in pre hearing conferences. I had a file load in public liability, product liability, property damage, low value contractual matters and miscellaneous matters including nuisance and recovery proceedings. I drafted court documents, carried out research for the partners and letters of advice. I appeared at Court in procedural hearings and in particular instructed in the Linton fires Coronial Inquest which ran for 100 sitting days. Counsel and I represented the families of the five deceased. I summarised and analysed complex evidence for Counsel, assisted in drafting submissions and advised our clients in relation to issues and procedures.
