Project Manager and Project Coordinator for several retail and bulk fuel facilities in Washington State. Responsible for planning and conducting investigations and remediation of soil and groundwater contamination of petroleum impacted sites. Managed field efforts for soil sampling, water sampling, large remedial excavations, and monitoring well installation. She has also been involved with report writing, cost proposals, historical land use research, hydrogeology analysis, and analytical data gap analysis.

Under contract with Washington Department of Ecology, performed an evaluation of the extent of source water and the identification of several senior water right applications related to groundwater applications filed by the Trailhead Water System in Skamania, Washington, the Klickitat PUD in Klickitat County, and the City of Gig Harbor. Provided Phase II assessments of surface water applications located in Chelan, Washington including application review, environmental review (SEPA analysis), review and evaluation of protests and letters of concern, investigation of underlying water right claims, evaluation of water availability, and development of draft Reports of Exam. Copper Basin Mining District, Tennessee- U.S. Environmental Protection AgencyMs. Otteman provided GIS support for activities in Copper Basin, including map production, database management, and spatial analyses. Ms. Otteman provided field assistance in taking pore water, sediment, and soil samples. GPS survey techniques and GPS corrective software were utilized out in the field. Everett Smelter Homesite Cleanup, Washington- Washington Department of EcologyAssisted with the collection of landscape soil core samples using geoprobe equipment in 2001. Ms. Otteman provided support for soil core sample processing, including cutting, compositing, and packaging core samples for laboratory analysis. Helped develop a spatial database using GIS for the Everett Homesite Cleanup project. Chehalis River Photo Analysis - Washington Department of EcologyAnalyzed aerial photography to examine spatial and temporal changes to riparian habitat and river meander along the Chehalis River. Used ArcView to georectify aerial imagery to a true geographic coordinate system and to map riparian habitat. River meander was further delineated from the 1938 to 1999 aerial photographs to identify and compare significant changes throughout the study time period.

Slope Stability Research in the Southern AppalachiansMs Otteman conducted modeling and prepared a report to evaluate debris flow susceptibility in the Bent Creek drainage basin near Asheville, North Carolina. The report identified and described areas of high landslide probability as part of a comprehensive statewide landslide hazard assessment for the North Carolina Geological Survey (NCGS). Her report used GIS to map a variety of geology, soil, and vegetation conditions out in the field.Managed all the computers within the ECU Geology Department. Provided technical assistance to staff and students. Aided in the development of GIS data as well as data conversion. Designed and maintained the department’s web page. Taught introductory physical geology labs.

For the Center for Science, Mathematics, and Technology Education, Ms Otteman produced and published GIS modules for K-12 teachers using a groundwater geochemistry/aquifer database. She conducted several workshops on the effects of Hurricane Floyd and the use of technology for North Carolina's standard K-12 curriculum. She also taught earth and physical science concepts and the fundamentals of GIS to K-12 teachers suing a variety of written and oral presentation techniques.

Lacey, Washington

As Part of the Salmon and Steelhead Habitat Inventory and Assessment Project (SSHIAP), Ms. Otteman collected geological, historical, and field data to assess effects of habitat loss and alteration on salmon and steelhead production in western Washington watersheds. She interpreted numerous maps and aerial photos (noting locations of various river barriers) to create GIS maps of fish habitat conditions.
