I completed Groupon Academy. I am now hilarious.

I led a pack of 6th graders through my favorite young adult book, The Bronze Bow by Elizabeth George Speare. I had them keep a personal journal, commenting on each chapter. I didn't focus as much on what they were writing—my main goal was to get them comfortable with the writing process and trusting their thoughts. The majority of their grade was based on class participation and journaling homework. I didn't focus as much on what they were writing—my main goal was to get them comfortable with the writing process and trusting their thoughts. The majority of their grade was based on class participation and journaling homework. Every class was spent discussing the material and digging into the language through cultural and historical exercises. I also required them to write and deliver an end-of-semester speech to the rest of the class. Working with the same subject matter they strengthened their reading comprehension, writing, public speaking and hopefully their confidence as a consumer of literature. Show less
