I worked for three years as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Leeds. My research involved nanotechnology for heat exchange and purification applications. Since then, I have been mainly involved in freelance editing and proofreading for various clients.My PhD project, undertaken at the University of Manchester, formed a contribution to a larger project by a consortium of the 6th framework of the European Commission. This project was referred to by the acronym MULTIPROTECT and involved the application of nanotechnology to the development of new coatings for corrosion protection and inhibition. I have attended several conferences and workshops in Germany, France and Italy, organised by the MULTIPROTECT group, in which I have given oral presentations. I have also been required to submit regular written reports.I have attended a one-month training course at the laboratory of INM in Germany. The training involved the preparation of various sol-gels for the dip-coating of aluminium and steel specimens. My subsequent analysis of the specimens (at the University of Manchester) produced some surprising and interesting results which have generated ideas for further development of coatings technology.I am a member of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining.Specialties: Glow discharge optical emission spectroscopy (GDOES), optical microscopy, scanning electon microscopy, electrochemsitry, polymer synthesis, column chromatography, gel permeation chromatography (GPC), 1H, 13C NMR, 31P and IR spectroscopy.
