Receives the initial referral for a potential donor, provides immediate assessment for any donor potential by reviewing patient past medical history, current clinical picture, etc. Provides an on site presence in the event of brain death testing and approaches families for authorization or to inform them of their loved one's donation status once brain death has been declared. Continues extensive on going family support while families remain on site. Initiates donor management after declaration has been made, performs allocation in accordance with UNOS policies, and takes the patient to surgery for recovery of the gifts of life. Provides immediate limited aftercare with the family post-operatively prior to handing the case off to the Donor Family Services Coordinator. Also performs death record reviews, requests and reviews autopsy reports, chart audits, hospital development rounds, and other duties as assigned by management.
