R-Zero is a biosafety technology company with UVC enabled system solutions for disinfection of indoor air and surfaces. Primary application areas include large enterprises, government infrastructure, and health care settings. Backed by top-tier Silicon Valley VCs, with over $170M raised, and strong and growing domestic revenues. I was brought on board to develop and implement a strategy to expand internationally, including Canada, the EU, the Middle East, and East and SouthEast Asia.

RayVio Corp. is an advanced health and hygiene company that delivers clean water and environments. RayVio helps protect billions from germs and creates new markets by enabling a new class of products. Its powerful and efficient UV LED technology can be integrated into a variety of applications, powering versatile on-demand solutions that give consumers control over health without chemicals or costly consumables. I was the founding CEO, and brought the technology from a university lab to high volume, high yield and high quality commercial production. RayVio reduced the price of UV-LEDs, on a $/Watt basis, by >100X with the release of our first product. Successfully raised $55M in venture capital funding, and commercialized the first products, including LARQ (see above).

Member of the Board of Directors of Pacific Light Technologies, a Quantum Dot company focused on lighting and display applications. PLT was successfully acquired by OSRAM.

YEBY Associations is a Silicon Valley-based Solid State Lighting Consulting Firm. Activities include: researching and writing market research reports, specifically for Penwell/Strategies Unlimited; Senior Advisor to the Chinese Government on Solid State Lighting; managing and hosting conferences in the LED/SSL industry, including the “Blue” conferences in Taiwan and the “Strategies in Light” conferences; pioneering Intematix sales of phosphors to the LED and Solid State Lighting industry; assisting US-based SSL companies in raising venture rounds and sales strategies, particularly in Asia.

I joined Board of Directors in 2004 after the company had raised an initial $2M in see funding. I assisted the management team in closing the first $8.5M Sand Hill Road venture round in 2005, and was brought in as CEO by the investors and founder immediately following funding. The revenue run rate increased by ~ 3X in during my 2 year tenure, to over $1M/month in revenue. Raised a $23M up-round and recruited a new CEO to move the company downstream from LED chips to lighting solutions.

Managing Director of the US office of US$150M Taiwan-based VC fund. Was on several Boards of Directors, and was integral to two successful M&A exits.

Managed EMCORE's MOCVD system sales in Asia (Japan, Korea, Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, Singapore & Malaysia), and later the Western US. MOCVD is the critical compound semiconductor deposition technology used in the manufacturing of LEDs, solid-state laser diodes, transistors of mobile communications and multi-junction solar cells. I grew revenue in my territory from $4M to >$100M over 8 years.

Conducted various aspects of subatomic particle/high energy physics research. This was conducted primarily at KEK in Japan, where I lived for 2½ years, as well as FermiLab near Chicago. At various times I worked for the Japanese Government, University of Rochester, FermiLab, and the Superconducting SuperCollider.
