Wilsdorf Hall: Materials Science Research under Professor Fitz-GeraldI worked on a research project involving the characterization of surfaces for manufacturing companies. This work culminated in the development of a handheld optical profilometer. I worked extensively on the design of this new technique and wrote the computer algorithms which governed its depth-from-defocus measurements.I had the opportunity to present this work on a number of occasions, both internally to the funding organization: the Commonwealth Center for Advanced Manufacturing and to other parties. Most notably, I got to present my work to the US Secretary of the Treasury, Jacob Lew.In addition, I won a couple of engineering symposiums hosted at the University of Virginia based on presentations of my work.
