I developed biomedical models of the pathogenic yeast, Candida albicans. My work aimed to identify novel disease pathways and targets for drug intervention.

I worked on a grant to study the effects of experimental gene duplications in yeast. My work involved using computational techniques to select candidates for duplication and predict the effects of these events. I was also responsible for the analysis of the results including analysing next generation sequencing (NGS) data from a long term evolution study.

During my time at Tessella I worked on a variety of projects. These included updating and developing new features for product tracking software for Unilever and working as part of a Discovery Informatics team at Astra Zeneca. As part of the Discovery Informatics team I was responsible for updating and expanding a central ontology of biological terms.

My PhD centred around identifying and characterising duplicate genes in yeast. I carried out a wide range of projects based on gene duplication including: identifying and analysing duplicates in many populations of yeast; writing software to infer the evolutionary histories of duplicate genes; analysing divergence of duplicates through transcriptional.
