Duties and responsibilities include:• Design and build a prototype UAV using commercially available airframes, avionics, and sensors,accounting for mechanical and electrical (power and data) requirements.• Develop software to control the UAVs autonomously and automatically detect objects of interest fromonboard sensors (e.g., visible and infrared cameras, lidar, etc.).• Develop test plans independently and in coordination with Canadian SAR agencies (e.g., RoyalCanadian Air Force (RCAF), Canadian Coast Guard (CCG)).• Iteratively improve system in response to test results and feedback from partners.• Communicate project progress to affiliated governmental agency (e.g., Public Safety Canada, RCAF,CCG) through interim and final project reports.

Managing a team of 8 people to develop software for an autonomous quadcopter involving landing pad detection, automatic route updating, and ground station monitoring.

Worked in a team of three to respond and provide assistance to mariners in distress or need of assistance, as well as educating the public on safe boating practices.
