I believe that as teachers we are ethically obligated to enter our classrooms with the highest level of expectations for all students. As educators, we must believe in our students and nurture their growth and development. I have always aimed to bring an open mind, positive attitude and a consistent approach to my work in developing students holistically, strengthening their academic skills and improving their behavioral standards. Children are indeed the future, and must be guided on their road to success in any field. To this end, I strongly believe that school environments need dedicated, resourceful and goal-driven professional educators with a solid commitment to the social and academic growth of every child.

Head Of Department - Business StudiesSecondary School Aug 2012 - PresentBarbadosThe Business studies department strives to meet the needs of those students within the school who are pursuing Accounting, Principles of Business, Information Technology, Computer Science and Principles of Accounting. The teachers within the department are trained to deliver instruction using the curriculum for both business studies and information technology and over the last ten years have gained success with pass rates of over 90%. I enjoy leading and collaborating with members of the department, who have the students' interest at heart and who go far beyond the call of duty to ensure the academic and social needs of the students are met. -
Qualified Graduate TeacherSecondary School Aug 2006 - PresentBarbadosOn leaving the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and Accounting, I commenced my teaching career at my alma mater, The Lodge School, as a untrained graduate teacher. The principal at the time, Mr. Desmond Browne, motivated me to pursue studies in the Diploma of Education at Erdiston Teachers' Training College. I registered for the program in 2005 and was successful in enrolling in the program that same year. In 2006, I completed the Diploma of Education with a distinction in the theory of education and an A in the practice of education. In my early years as a teacher, I taught Mathematics and Accounting. Subsequently, I taught Accounting to senior students for the Caribbean Secondary Examination Council (CSEC) and the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE). Over the years I have contributed to the growth of many students who were successfully prepared to achieve their academic goals. In my current role as head of the business department, I work closely with teachers to ensure a high quality of education is delivered to all students. I enjoy teaching and my philosophical belief is that all students can achieve if provided with the varied types of support and resources needed.

Sports Coordinator (Emtage House)Secondary School Aug 2001 - Jun 2014Saint John, BarbadosThe role of the Sports Coordinator at the secondary school is an active one especially in the second term of the academic year when the majority of the sporting activities are scheduled. There are five sports houses with approximately 200 students in each. I served as coordinator for thirteen years. The involvement of the other teachers in the house added excitement and interest among students. The Sports Coordinator was responsible for conducting assembly once a week with the sports group or sports house. Our role included collaborating with the physical education department teachers who gave instructions for us to relay to the house members. Persuasive communication was used to encourage and motivate students to participate in athletics.

Private TutorFreelance Sep 2006 - PresentBarbadosOver the years, I have worked with students and adults to assist them in understanding key concepts in the subject area of Mathematics and Accounting. I am usually contacted by parents who are seeking assistance through private tutoring for their children; I also cater for adult learners who may need assistance and support in completing the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) syllabus so they could be successful in the examinations. The Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations (CAPE) is also conducted by CXC and private tutoring is provided to senior students at this level as well. It is my belief that all learners can achieve with the appropriate support and resources, and to this end, diverse resources are also sought for learners from lower socio-economic backgrounds who may lack finances to acquire the resources needed to succeed.

Assistant ExaminerCaribbean Examinations Council Jul 2011 - Aug 2013Saint Michael, BarbadosThroughout my career, I enjoyed being an Assistant Examiner for the Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) in the area of Accounting. On the two occasions that I served as assistant examiner, the contract required me to travel overseas to Jamaica during the summer holiday. This was a meaningful experience as educators from various countries in the Caribbean collaborated and discussed solutions to accounting questions while marking the examination scripts. The experience empowered me to share with my department members how the chief examiner analyzed the questions and solutions. This was an enlightening session as teachers got clarity on the expectations of CXC examiners.
