My internship at Columbus McKinnon exposed me to new continuous improvement concepts and provided me with more experience within a production plant environment. My main project during the internship was a kaizen event in the mechanical actuator assembly area of the plant. I was heavily involved in the pre-work preparations for the event and co-facilitated the event during the event week itself. Our changes reduced the cell footprint by 53% and decreased cycle time by 25%, among other improvements. I presented these results and findings to the company's leadership team. Outside of the kaizen event, I also worked on improving inventory accuracy and organization within the plant by going through shelves and checking their contents against the system data in SAP. I participated in SQDCI daily management meetings each day. I also spent time working in different departments within the plant including shipping, assembly, and warehouse.

As an intern at TSI, I collaborated with people from several other European countries on a European defence project. I investigated naval weapons systems and sensors in an effort to improve their accuracy. My coworkers and I communicated in both Spanish and English.

During my time at Tree Top, I had the opportunity to spend time with most of the different departments in the company and learn about the things they did to contribute to the company's success. Most of my time was spent with the production team, where I was able to be on the production floor as a supervisor, helping out with different problems as they came up. I also led a couple of plant improvement projects, which reduced the wasted product in the plant. I worked with both the engineering team and contractors on these projects.
