Ryan Christopher is an award-winning folklorist from St. John's NL. Having studied traditional music within the province of Newfoundland and Labrador for the last 5 years, both academically and professionally. Ryan has created a way of how traditional music shapes the province's history and culture through his research and admiration for the arts and music of Newfoundland and Labrador. Currently in his final year of Folklore (BA) & Geography (BSc) with a minor in Music and Culture at Memorial University, Ryan plans to continue his studies on traditional music up to a doctorate level. Having interviewed many traditional artists and their contributions to the music of the province during his undergrad, Ryan hopes to continue to share the importance of traditional music within Newfoundland and Labrador. Outside of his studies, Ryan is an avid player at local sessions and festivals around St. John's and the eastern Avalon and hosts a slow session every Thursday with accordionist Dave Penny at Erin's Pub. Hoping to pursue a career within the local heritage/music sector or as an academic professional, Ryan is continuing to make a name for himself within the community!
