I am a quality of care and compliance focused healthcare professional. I have been in the healthcare industry for 20 years. I began my healthcare journey in a customer service environment at BCBSNM. I found the depth and complexity in HIPAA fascinating. I learned claims and Julian dates and all of these interesting new things. From this point forward, I strived to become a trainer to everyone around me of everything I knew about healthcare.Now, I have been with HME for over 10 years, the above is still true but I was able to get into compliance. I find the problems and make suggestions for process improvement. I review complaints from all areas for resolution to member issues. I review claim outcomes and medical records to verify compliance with CMS regulations for DMEPOS claims. In all cases, data is maintained for trending and review purposes, as necessary."Audit" is generally thought of as a negative thing, but audit is also the most effective way to verify that an organization is compliant in policy, process and regulation alike. Audit verifies if policy may be ineffective if a certain product fails in the same way, or paperwork is not completed properly.
